Zhina Modaresgarji, a journalist and women's rights activist from Sanandaj, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the first branch of the Islamic Revolution Court of this city on the charges of "forming an illegal gang and group with the aim of overthrowing the system" and on the charge of "collaborating with hostile groups and countries" to 10 years. He has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment on the charge of "propaganda against the regime". According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, his last court session was held on April 21 in the first branch of Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Karmi, and his lawyers were notified of the verdict in the past few days. According to the Consolidation and Aggregation of Sentences Law, out of the total of 21 years of sentence issued, the worst punishment is 10 years of penal servitude with deportation to Hamadan prison. The lawyers of Mrs. Modares-Georji officially registered their objection to this heavy sentence and the case will be sent to the provincial appeals court for re-examination.
