The arrest of five Kurdish activists in connection with the Nowruz ceremony

Five Kurdish media and civic activists were arrested by the security forces for participating in the Nowruz ceremony in Ashnoyeh, as well as one citizen in Bukan. On the other hand, after a week, the fate of a women’s activist who was arrested in this city is not known. According to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, on the morning of Monday, May 20, Hajar Mahmoudi from Piranshahr and the manager of the “Shnoyehkam” Instagram page, along with four activists from Ashnoye and colleagues of this page, namely Delshad Shadab, photographer, Basit Kadirzadeh, announcer, Zahir Hajipour, The announcer and Sami Mahmoudi Aghdam, a Kurdish language teacher, were arrested and taken to an unknown location after being summoned to the news headquarters of the Shahnoye Intelligence Department. It is said that these arrests were related to this year’s Nowruz ceremony. Also, the Instagram page of “Shnoyehkam” has been deactivated after the arrest of these people. According to statistics collected by the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, at least 43 Kurdish activists, artists and citizens have been arrested in various cities and villages of Ilam, Kermanshah, Kurdistan and West Azerbaijan provinces since March for holding or participating in Nowruz celebrations.

On the other hand, on Sunday, May 19th, Ebrahim Naseri, a school teacher from Bukan, was arrested after being summoned to the news headquarters of the Intelligence Department of this city. This citizen was arrested and taken to an unknown place after being summoned by phone to the news headquarters of the Bukan Intelligence Department. So far, no information has been obtained about the accusations made and the whereabouts of this citizen.

Also, after a week has passed since the arrest of Sosan Hassanzadeh, a civil activist and Kurdish language teacher from Bukan, there is no information about his fate. On Wednesday, May 15, the security forces violently arrested Sosan Hassanzadeh in her family home without presenting a court order and transferred her to an unknown place.
